How can a visitor read the table on medical tourism by district in Seoul when planning treatment and sightseeing?
It shows that the districts where clinics cluster are not the ones where attractions cluster. Gangnam-gu and Seocho-gu list many clinics, while Jongno-gu and Jung-gu list many attractions.
The table only says how many places a district has. It does not give the distance or travel time between two districts, or the location of any single clinic or attraction. The subway stations with the most attractions nearby are in Seoul Attractions by Subway Station.
What should you keep in mind when reading the figures on medical tourism by district in Seoul?
Clinic counts come from the 2015 list and tourism counts from lists downloaded on 9 Oct 2026, so the reference dates differ. They are placed in one table for comparison only; dividing one by the other or adding them gives a number with no meaning. The list is a single snapshot from 2015 and has not been updated since. Clinics that have closed or moved, and those registered later, are not reflected. It cannot be used to confirm whether a clinic is registered today.
This is the list of places featured on Visit Seoul, the city's official travel guide. It is not a census of every attraction in Seoul. A district's count is the number of places the guide lists there, not the number that exist. The dataset is updated monthly, so the figures are those of the download date.
Where do the figures on medical tourism by district in Seoul come from, and how were they calculated?
The figures are Seoul Tourism and Medical Tourism Data's own counts, by district and neighbourhood, of the 1,494 rows in "Seoul: medical institutions approved for medical tourism, English list (2015)" on the Seoul Open Data Plaza. Only the 1,491 rows with a Seoul address are counted; 2 rows with a Gyeonggi address and 1 row with no address are left out. The list comes from the Foreign Patient Attraction Information System and was released by the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Public Health Policy Division.
The figures are Seoul Tourism and Medical Tourism Data's own counts from "Seoul tourist attractions", a dataset the Seoul Tourism Organization publishes on the Seoul Open Data Plaza, downloaded on 9 Oct 2026. The file has 2,502 rows in five languages, with the same place listed once per language, so only the 506 Korean rows are counted. Districts are read from the address column, and subway stations and distances from the transport column. Restaurants and shopping places were counted the same way from the organization's "Seoul restaurants for visitors" and "Seoul shopping places for visitors" datasets, downloaded on the same day. Ranks are set separately for each list, and districts with the same count share a rank.
